Soren's story
Soren is a visual artist, a scientist (physics MS, astrophysicist Ph.D.), an experienced public speaker, and a former semi-professional soccer player. His lifelong pursuits of art and science have been fueled by a natural creativity and a deep and wide-ranging curiosity about the natural world. In his Soccer SciArt, Soren combines his lifelong passions for soccer, art, science, and education to tell stories about the beautiful game that has conquered the hearts and minds of people across all continent and cultures.
Soren was born in Denmark where his interest in art was ignited at an early age by his artist father. He drew, printed, sculpted, and painted, and developed a deep and lasting love for visual art.
His youth was dominated by elite-level soccer on club, regional, and youth national teams. Soren played as a semi-professional for 7 years until the completion of his Master’s degree in physics and astronomy at the University of Copenhagen. He stopped playing at age 25 before serving one year in the Royal Danish Air Force and moving to the USA to begin a Ph.D. study in astrophysics.
Following his doctorate from University of Wisconsin – Madison, Soren had an exciting and successful 14-year career at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge in Massachusetts. Soren’s research involved studying the structure and evolution of single stars, binary stars, and clusters of stars, and he worked with NASA on space-telescope missions (Kepler and TESS) to discover planets beyond our solar system (exoplanets). Both his stellar and exoplanet research led to many pier reviewed publications including two first author articles in the journal Nature.
Soren retains his affiliation with the Harvard-Smithsonian, but now devotes himself to working full time as a visual artist.
“I was a kid who loved art and grew up to become a professional soccer player and astronomer. Now I’m a kid again who loves art…”
